Assistant District Commissioner for Sapele Kenneth Campbell has begun arrangements for the planned invasion of Benin early in the new year.
He has to ensure that there is sufficient provision for everyone going including food, water and camp beds all the white men, food and water for the troop and the fife and drum band from the Niger Coast Protectorate Force. The carriers need to be planned for too. Adequate medical provision will need to be carried too.
The planned total number of people going is well over 500. This was the figure sent to the Foreign Office in London in October by Consul General Phillips. It consist of 250 armed troop, 150 Lagos Hausa and unspecified number of white men and carriers.
Meticulous Kenneth Campbell is being helped in this task by another Assistant District Commissioner, Mr. Lyon.
Consul General Phillips is in charge of arrangements for the invasion arms and ammunition.
